Experts recommend getting a fridge that holds twice as many bottles as you think you’ll own, so your collection has room to grow. To that end, we prioritized models that can hold 50 to 70 bottles (between four and six cases), give or take. Temperature and climate tracking: After plugging in the wine fridges, we measured internal temperatures and humidity every hour for eight hours, using low-temperature digital thermometers and hygrometers. We left these sensors in each fridge overnight to record temperature and humidity fluctuations throughout the night. Most wine coolers reached stable temperatures and humidity levels after four hours. And, following industry best practices, we waited 24 hours to stock them. After letting the stocked fridges stabilize for an additional 24 hours, we tested their ability to recover and maintain appropriate temperatures while adjusting internal settings to their minimum and maximum thresholds. For the purposes of our evaluation, we deemed any temperature variance of 5 °F or greater as a significant fluctuation.
Capacity and cooling efficiency: We fully loaded each fridge with a variety of bottle shapes and sizes to determine real-world capacity. Using specialized wine bottle thermometers, we recorded liquid temperatures every 30 minutes over an eight-hour period to evaluate cooling speed, stability, and overall performance.
